New York State Senator John Liu recently introduced Senate Bill S7652, which aims to freeze tuition at the State University of New York and the City University of New York. ACTA wrote to Senator Liu, praising his efforts to combat the rising cost of college and ensure that as many New Yorkers as possible can attend the state’s public colleges and universities.
Dear Senator Liu:
I wanted to reach out to you in light of your recent work on S7652. As a nonprofit organization committed to the preservation of academic freedom, academic excellence, and accountability, the American Council of Trustees and Alumni (ACTA) appreciates your efforts to combat the rising price of higher education. We share your concern that far too many students are being priced out of a college education due to rising tuition.
In this spirit I would like to offer our aid if there is any way we can be of assistance. For over 20 years, ACTA has worked with trustees and public officials across the country to ensure that all Americans can receive a high-quality education at an affordable price. We have testified before various legislatures and commissions in states including Florida, New Jersey, Alaska, Georgia, Montana, Texas, and Pennsylvania, on issues such as curricular quality, academic assessment, and institutional accountability.
If there is anything we can do to help your efforts to support S7652, or with any other matter, please to not hesitate to reach out to me directly.
We are immensely grateful for your commitment to American higher education, and I look forward to hearing from you in the future.
Sincerely,
Armand B. Alacbay,
Vice President of Trustee & Government Affairs
