Performance Based Funding on the Docket in New Jersey

February 19, 2022 Download PDF

In 2022, New Jersey Representatives Joe Danielsen, Mila Jasey, and Daniel Benson, along with Senator Angela McKnight, introduced Bill A376. The legislation directed the state’s secretary of higher education “to establish performance-based funding plans for public institutions of higher education.” ACTA wrote a letter of support for the legislators’ efforts to increase accountability measures over state funding for higher education. A majority of states now use some kind of performance-based funding as a way to increase positive student outcomes, and we applaud New Jersey for exploring this possibility.
