Michael B. Poliakoff Testimony before the Ohio Legislature  in Defense of “The Enact Ohio Higher Education Enhancement Act”

On March 29th, Michael Poliakoff testified along with other higher education experts before the Workforce and Higher Education Committee of the Ohio Legislature regarding SB 83, “The Enact Ohio Higher Education Enhancement Act.” Introduced by State Senator Jerry Cirino, SB 83 would prohibit mandatory DEI training and ban political litmus tests in hiring and admissions. The bill would also require new trustees to receive orientation regarding their fiduciary responsibilities to their school and Ohio taxpayers.

Do Campus Diversity Offices (DEI) Help Or Harm Diversity?

“Affirm and guarantee . . . that the institution will not use a diversity statement or any other assessment of an applicant’s commitment to specified concepts in any hiring, promotions, or admissions process or decision.” So reads Senate Bill 83, recently introduced in the Ohio Legislature. Its sponsor, Senator Jerry Cirino, remarked in our interview: “This bill is about what is best for students. It is about the quality of their education and about enabling them to become independent thinkers, ready for citizenship in a free society.”
