Three New Programs to Join ACTA’s Hidden Gems Initiative

April 14, 2025

Washington, DC – The American Council of Trustees and Alumni (ACTA) welcomes three exceptional curricular programs to its Hidden Gems initiative. This initiative highlights honors colleges and major, minor, and certificate programs that provide high-quality interdisciplinary education in the liberal arts. Launched in 2019, it now numbers 23 institutions spanning from coast to coast.

The newest Hidden Gems are the Philosophy, Politics, & Economics certificate program at Duke University, the Honors College at Regent University, and the Philosophy, Politics & Economics program at Rhodes College. Other recent additions include the Cornerstone Integrated Liberal Arts certificate program at Purdue University, the Philosophy, Politics, & Economics program at SUNY–the University at Buffalo, and the Honors Colleges at the University of Tulsa and Lipscomb University.

ACTA’s Hidden Gems prepare students to lead flourishing lives and meaningful careers through rigorous academic programs, intellectual and professional opportunities, and individual mentorship. They provide an outstanding model to follow for other institutions devoted to high-quality liberal arts education.

“A college education should provide deep preparation for career, citizenship, and community life. That depth is not always easy to find, even at prestigious institutions,” said ACTA President Michael Poliakoff. “ACTA’s Hidden Gems initiative informs college-bound students, their parents, and the public about those places on campus where students can find the programs and mentorship that have an enduring, positive impact on intellect and character. ACTA is proud to profile the distinguished faculty and the outstanding education provided at the Hidden Gems to celebrate their achievements and to make their resources widely known.”
