ACTA was invited to speak at the annual meeting of the Pennsylvania Association of Councils of Trustees (PACT) to discuss how PACT’s members can best fulfill their fiduciary duties within Pennsylvania’s unique higher education system. ACTA President Michael Poliakoff gave an overview of the importance of transparent governance in the face of declining public confidence. Chief of Staff Armand Alacbay shared several resources to help trustees improve their curricular requirements, lower the cost of attendance, and protect academic freedom. Policy Research Fellow Kyle Beltramini provided a review of trustees’ statutory authority and discussed how to partner with campus stakeholders to drive reform. The seminar was organized through ACTA’s Institute for Effective Governance® (IEG), which offers a range of board retreats designed to empower college trustees to be effective and engaged stewards of their institutions. More information about these programs can be found online or by contacting ACTA Chief of Staff Armand Alacbay at armand.alacbay@goacta.org.
