Admissions Scandal Hero Wallace Hall will speak at Texas Public Policy Foundation on June 12

June 7, 2019 by ACTA

Austin, TX – On Wednesday, June 12, the American Council of Trustees and Alumni (ACTA) and the Texas Public Policy Foundation will host a luncheon event featuring Wallace Hall, a former regent of the University of Texas System who was an early whistleblower alerting the public to college admissions corruption, many years before the current admissions scandal garnered international headlines.

In 2011, Mr. Hall faced harsh criticism and censure for requesting application documents to investigate for irregularities. Accusations were immediately launched, claiming that he was overstepping his role as a trustee; and a controversial impeachment process against him began. Mr. Hall’s findings were validated in 2015 when an investigation confirmed the widespread admissions corruption that he had suspected. Now, in light of the college admissions scandal, students, higher education leaders, and the public have come to appreciate the lengths Mr. Hall went to in order to protect the admissions process. The University of Texas–Austin Student Government issued a statement in April, 2019, noting that Mr. Hall was “one of the few University administrators genuinely acting on behalf of students and fairness in admissions.”
