WASHINGTON, DC—Following the announcement of a settlement in the litigation between the state of New Jersey and the Stevens Institute of Technology, Anne D. Neal, president of the American Council of Trustees and Alumni, made the following statement today:
High-profile cases involving financial improprieties in New Jersey and admissions scandals in Illinois should be a clarion call for higher education governing boards to get their house in order. Trustees are rightly finding themselves on the hot seat for failing to hold themselves and their institutions to the same level of accountability that we demand from other institutions of comparable size and importance.
