The American Council of Trustees and Alumni (ACTA) is an independent, nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting academic excellence, academic freedom, and accountability at America’s colleges and universities.
Launched in 1995, we are the only organization that works with alumni, donors, trustees, and education leaders across the United States to support liberal arts education, uphold high academic standards, safeguard the free exchange of ideas on campus, and ensure that the next generation receives an intellectually rich, high-quality college education at an affordable price.
ACTA’s resources address key issues of higher education quality and effectiveness. They provide higher education stakeholders with the tools they need to address topics such as curricular standards and academic rigor, the academic freedom of faculty and students, cost-effectiveness and allocation of resources, responsible governance, and how attentive institutions are to the needs of their students.
ACTA’s public advocacy for academic excellence, academic freedom, and accountability at America’s colleges and universities reaches a wide audience and has been cited by national newspapers, television commentators, and by state and federal government, including Congress and the President of the United States.
